The Kingdom of Morocco has secured through the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and Combating of Corruption (INPPLC) a seat on the Steering Committee of the International Partnership against Corruption in Sport (IPACS), a first for the Kingdom. The adherence confirms Morocco as an active partner in advancing global efforts for cleaner sport, and signals its intention to back its sporting ambitions with an institutional commitment to safeguarding the integrity of competition and public trust in its outcomes. The INPPLC took up its seat at the IPACS General Assembly in Lausanne, Switzerland, where it was represented by its President, Mohamed Benalilou. The Authority pledged to turn its membership into a genuine institutional contribution to sport integrity, at the national and international levels.
The seat gives Morocco a voice in setting IPACS’s priorities and initiatives, and in strengthening cooperation among public authorities, sports organizations and international partners. For the INPPLC, it opens the way to sharing expertise, proposing practical tools to prevent corruption in sport, and turning good-governance standards into everyday practice that makes the management of sport more transparent.
The timing is significant. Morocco is preparing to host major sporting events, which makes integrity a central issue in their planning and delivery and in protecting their development legacy. The INPPLC stressed that a successful event depends not only on sound contracts and careful management of resources, but also on transparent decision-making and the ability to intervene early when corruption risks emerge.
The Authority’s contribution rests on a simple conviction: protecting sport from corruption means protecting the trust of athletes and fans, the fairness of the rules, equal opportunity and the credibility of competition. Corruption in sport does more than drain resources. It erodes trust, devalues sporting achievement and limits sport’s capacity to deliver its full benefits for society. The INPPLC intends to make this membership count on two complementary fronts: contributing to the development of international initiatives and standards on sport integrity, and drawing on IPACS’s expertise and tools to strengthen corruption prevention at home and to anchor sport as a driver of sustainable
The International Partnership against Corruption in Sport (IPACS) is a multi-stakeholder initiative launched in 2017 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in partnership with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Council of Europe and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), together with a number of founding governments. Based in Lausanne, it now brings together more than 70 partners, including governments, intergovernmental organizations, international sports federations and National Olympic Committees. Its aims at uniting the efforts of sports bodies and public authorities to prevent and combat corruption in sport and to establish common standards of good governance within sports organizations.
